Early Lung Cancer Detection Program
Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality in this country, killing more than 161,000 people per year. To help detect lung cancer in early stages two leading-edge technologies are available through the Early Lung Cancer Detection Program.
CT Scan Screening for Early Lung Cancer Detection
The National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) by National Cancer Institute (NCI) results show mortality benefit with low-dose CT, twenty percent fewer lung cancer deaths seen among those who were screened with low-dose spiral CT than with chest X-ray.
Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscope (ENB)™
Physicians and scientists continue to research and develop new detection methods for lung cancer and other lung diseases, which have resulted in advanced technology such as the electromagnetic navigation bronchoscope (ENB)™. ENB is a GPS-like technology that offers patients a minimally-invasive option to locate, biopsy and prepare to treat a lesion (spot) detected deep in the lung available to patients at Long Beach Memorial.
